Considerations in choosing a liquid matte lipstick + Cathy Doll Nude Me Liquid Lip Matte Swatches & Review

This might be a little late for the International Lipstick Day, but hoping to still hit the spot for lipstick lovers. 😀

Cathy Doll is a Korean-inspired brand that has been a favorite of many beauty enthusiasts all over Asia. Last June, I was lucky enough to have been given some of their items as a giveaway prize. Most of which have been launched on that same month to celebrate their first year anniversary.

What are your considerations when buying a liquid matte lipstick? Mine would include color & pigmentation, weight, ingredients, scent, longevity and price in no particular order. Taking these into account, let’s see how Cathy Doll Nude Me Liquid Lip Matte would fare. Please note that I am not an expert in makeup and reviews. I’m an enthusiast who’s happy and excited to try different products and these are my thoughts as a noob.

COLOR and PIGMENTATION

Consideration:  Shades of nudes and reds.

The Cathy Doll Nude Me Liquid Lip Matte comes in 9 shades. They are browns, nudes, pinks and reds; and all are wearable. Pigmentation is really good. One swipe provides a solid color with high opacity.

WEIGHT

Consideration:  For lipsticks in general, I prefer the ones that you barely feel you’re wearing.

Cathy Doll Nude Me Liquid Lip Matte:  This product applies creamy and dries matte. It feels thin and fairly light though you’d still feel that slight tug of a liquid matte lipstick. My lips easily gets dry and this is one of the liquid matte lipsticks I’ve tried that isn’t as drying. It’s still good practice to prep your lips, exfoliate and moisturize, before putting on any lip product.

INGREDIENTS

Consideration:  Consumers are now more conscious of what we apply on our skin. For cosmetics, most prefer hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, paraben-free, silicon-free and fragrance-free. I would prefer the same but I don’t mind using products with these so long as they’re within the safety requirements.

Cathy Doll Nude Me Liquid Lip Matte:  Below is the listed ingredients for Cathy Doll Nude Me Liquid Lip Matte. If you’re someone who’s very particular with the ingredients of cosmetics, please note that this has fragrance and silicon-based ingredients.

SCENT

Consideration:  I’m good with a little fragrance as long as it’s pleasing to the senses. Unfortunately, I’m not that good with categorizing scents. All I know is that I love fruity and don’t like cosmetics with vanilla and chocolate scents, or those which smell like chemicals.

Cathy Doll Nude Me Liquid Lip Matte:  For this product, the scent is not so appealing to me. It smells like a nutty chocolate, I think. It’s the same issue I’ve had with other Cathy Doll lip products I’ve tried. But the good thing is that for their Nude Me Liquid Matte, it’s not that strong and eventually becomes unnoticeable.

LONGEVITY

Consideration:  Liquid matte lipsticks are expected to last almost the whole day. Through drinking and eating, and even kissing.

Cathy Doll Nude Me Liquid Lip Matte:  What I can say for the Cathy Doll Nude Me Liquid  Lip Matte is that it’s really waterproof, doesn’t crack easily and stays on for a long time.  I actually took a bath with lipstick still on because I forgot I was wearing it. I only realized after when I saw my face in the mirror and saw that most of the lipstick was still there. It starts breaking apart when oil touches your lips, particularly on the inner corners, so you will have to retouch after eating something with oil. Though most of the lipstick stays put. The cracks are pretty obvious especially when wearing #02 and #03. Though the shade #09 Burgundy Red was a tough one to remove. Aside from the inner corners breaking down, the rest of the lipstick lasted a little longer even after eating.

Consideration:  Not over Php 1,000.00.

Cathy Doll Nude Me Liquid Lip Matte:  For a liquid matte lipstick with great quality, this one is affordably priced at Php 399.00 each. Perfect for us who wants a liquid matte lipstick but cannot, or not willing to spend so much for the high end brands.

PACKAGING and APPLICATOR

Consideration:  Added this as a bonus. I believe that when looking for a makeup product, pretty or cute packaging is definitely a plus. It gets people’s attention enough to get curious and possibly try or purchase the product. Having a good applicator is something good to have as well. As someone who is just discovering my fascination for makeup, having a good applicator helps me enjoy the product and would want to use it over and over.

Cathy Doll Nude Me Liquid Lip Matte:  This product passed on both points. The box is very informative. Both the box and tube are cute, chic and sturdy. The tube is a dual layered hard plastic with nude handle and clear bottom container so you can see the exact shade of the lipstick. The applicator is a soft paddle sponge. You can use the corners of the sponge to line the edges of your lips, while filling in the rest of your lips with the flat side of the applicator.

OVERALL:  I’m loving this liquid matte lipstick and rating it 4/5. Giving it a thumbs up and would  definitely recommend it.
