Swanicoco A.C Free A.C Control Care Emulsion | Review

End of November 2017, I published my review of the Swanicoco A.C Free A.C Control Care Skintoner. Today, I’d like to share with you my review of it’s counterpart, the Swanicoco A.C Free A.C Control Care Emulsion. I decided to make a separate review because I wanted to test this out a little longer. Without further ado, here’s the product review.

• Description:  Like its skintoner counterpart, the Swanicoco AC Control Care Emulsion contains tea tree leaf water and various herb extracts (jojoba seed, artemisia annua, calendula, and comfrey leaf) that help to soothe irritation and protect skin from harmful environmental factors. This emulsion also contains hydrolized algin, a submarine plant, which is chock full of mineral and fatty acids that gently exfoliates for smoother skin. Ceramide, another key ingredient, infuses the skin with long-lasting moisture that strengthens the skin’s elasticity. Living up to its name, this emulsion helps control easily irritated, sensitive skin and effectively controls sebum—it’s particularly recommended for teenagers or young adults with blemished, oily, and acne-prone skin.

HOW TO USE:

After cleansing and toner, pump a moderate amount into the palm of your hands and gently apply evenly over your face. Pat gently to promote full absorption.

MY THOUGHTS:

Packaging:  The packaging is exactly the same as the skintoner, from the box, down to the bottle and pump. I really like their packaging. It’s also very easy to operate with just one hand.

Scent and Texture:  The scent is also very similar to it’s skintoner counterpart,  mild, herbal and soothing.

This is a white, soft and smooth emulsion. It’s very light to the touch and applies on smooth and a bit watery. It leaves a dewy finish that’s a bit tacky. A few weeks ago when the weather was still a bit hot and humid, my face would turn greasy after half an hour of applying this product. Now that it’s a lot colder, it doesn’t feel as tacky. There are even times that the tackiness disappears.

Application:  I used this along with the A.C Control Care Skintoner and A.C Control Tee Tree Essence. I apply this after essence as the last step of both my morning and evening routines.

I take 1 pump of emulsion from the bottle and dot it on my nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. I spread the emulsion on my face with light circular motion, like a light massage. Then pat it in for better absorption. It seals in all the other products I’ve applied in previous steps of my routine.

Results:  I do patch tests before using a product. This one was no different. Patch test went well. However, on the second day of using this on my whole face, small itchy bumps appeared all over my face. They were concentrated on my nose, cheeks and forehead, mostly my forehead. I did not understand why because the patch test was all good and this product was supposed to be for blemished, oily, acne-prone and sensitive skin. I guess I should have done the patch test on one or all three of those critical spots instead of my jawline and neck.

I stopped using this for a week to let my skin recover before I start using it again. After a week, I used little amounts on half of my face both morning and night for 3 days. When there was no adverse reactions, I started using it on my whole face on the 4th day. You can see on “Week 3” photos above that there are still some small pink bumps on my forehead. Though they are no longer itchy by this time. Imagine my whole forehead was covered with those on Week 1. My skin has adjusted pretty well over the last 5 weeks of using this product (see “Week 5 “photo above). Though there are still a few small bumps across my face due to hormones and lifestyle. I also feel it helped in preventing any major breakouts from popping up. I’ve only had a handful of small pimples appear since I started using this. There were times that I would see a red aching spot where a pimple would probably appear, but then it would be gone the next day.

This worked well with the other products I used on my routine for the past 5 weeks. I’ve noticed that it paired better with a low pH cleanser than a higher one. My skin was well moisturized. It felt soft and supple even in this cold rainy season. It leaves a dewy finish as seen on the “After” photo above, particularly on areas where light hits like my nose and forehead.

OVERALL:  Despite my skin’s initial reaction to this product, it turned out really well in the end. If you have sensitive skin like mine, I would suggest to do a patch test on your critical areas to have a better idea on how your skin would react to a product.

Now that it’s colder, I can comfortably use this both day and night. But during summer and those in between, I’d prefer to use this emulsion at night only since it’s going to make me too greasy during the day. This is a premium brand, and I think the price of US$30.00 for a 120ml product is more than worth it.
